Message In the past, if you added higher octane with the same tune and same boost level, you would make less power because the higher octane fuel had a slower burn/consumption rate.
The ability to run higher boost and add more timing safely, allowed higher octane fuels to produce more power. You only wanted to add as much octane as was needed to suppress detonation, because the higher the octane the slower the fuel burned, just adding more octane killed power.
When Q-16 came along it was amazing how much more power could be obtained, it has a extremely fast burn rate when compared to other high octane fuels due to it’s high oxygen content. With Q-16 you could add octane to run more boost and add timing, without the negative effect of slowing the burn rate.
This is why Q-16 can make a lot more power than C-16. Both fuels have the same octane rating, but Q-16 burns much faster.

The ability to burn more fuel is what makes power.

E85 is another game changer, The fact that it has a much higher burn rate, does give E85 the ability to make more power.
We do not have E85 available in our area yet, I am looking forward to E85 becoming more common.
I look forward to testing E85 as I know it will have a lot more to offer in power over other fuels.
It will be interesting to see how far the tune can be pushed and how much boost can be run on E-85 safely.

BTW Boosted1 could have run a lot more boost on Q-16, in fact he could run the max boost possible of the turbos he has. His boost controller sucked and would not go any higher. Normally the set up he has can run 26 to 28 PSI and he would make significantly more power with a better boost controller. At the same boost level I am sure he could make significantly more power on E-85, but it would require larger fuel injectors and a second pump.
